The Cherokees have a special relationship with bears. You will, too, after just one visit.

In Cherokee, you’ll discover bears of all varieties. Bears are revered and considered spiritual by native Cherokee people. Of course, during certain times of year, hikers within the Great Smokies must be vigilant and stay on the lookout for our furry friends who may be hungry or mating. You can also find artistic bear sculptures that have been painted and adorned to represent various aspects of the Cherokee community placed all across the Qualla Boundary.
